Ashtrom Construction, through its subsidiary, Ashtrom Construction North, is behind the construction of a residential neighbourhood in Tirat HaCarmel, as part of an urban renewal process in the area. The project was developed for the entrepreneurial arm of the group, Ashdar.
Engineering Solutions for Ground Constraints
The HaHotrim complex spans approximately 17,000 sq.m. in the heart of the Carmel and comprises five residential buildings ranging from 8 to 20 floors, with a total of 254 housing units.
The work crews in the field encountered engineering challenges both on account of the clayey soil and the restrictions permitting the operation of only 4 tower cranes. The frame erection phase took 13 months, in the course of which some 29,000 cu.m. of concrete were cast - a monthly average of over 2,200 cu.m. The construction work was accomplished with only 4 tower cranes, but their smart and efficient placement enabled movement of equipment and materials across the site in an optimum manner, contributing to reduction of the number of moulds. In addition, the construction complex was typified by swelling ground - clayey soil reacting to variations in the moisture content by a change of volume - dictating complex engineering solutions during the foundation laying stages.
